Paul Newman


Paul Newman is a highly skilled saxophonist, clarinetist, and pianist who is also recognized throughout Canada as a prolific composer and uniquely talented improviser.


He currently performs with the Woodchopper's Association, Dust, Abakos, the Starfires, and in duos with trombonist Heather Segger and saxophonist Karen Ng, while also performing and composing music for solo saxophone.


Paul is active in the Toronto improvised music community both as a performer and, by way of co-directing Somewhere There Creative Music Presentation, as an organizer.


He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a B.A. in music and from York University with a master's degree in composition. He has also attended the Banff Centre School of fine arts.


His recent recording of compositions for two wind instruments, performed with Heather Segger and Karen Ng, is scheduled for release in 2015.

Paul has worked at Lowe's School of Music since the late 1990s!
